Those of you who know me well, know I am a wanderer at heart. A wanderer and a wonderer. Maybe it’s all of those road trips we took when I was a kid. Maybe I was born this way. Maybe we’ll never know.
What we do know is that some of our best and most memorable experiences as a family of six have happened on the road. For us, road time is quality family time and an opportunity to learn, to see, to experience, to be present and to think outside our comfortable box. We want to offer our children a childhood filled with travel. We want to show our children the world.
Last summer we took a trip I’d been dreaming about for years and years. For three weeks and five thousand miles we explored Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, Utah and New Mexico. It was a dream come true and it opened our eyes to a different way of life.
Our vision was changed by that trip. It was an unforgettable experience and one our kids still reference often.
Last summer we went west. This summer we go north! Our plan is to leave in June and to spend four weeks showing our kids every state between here and Maine.
We are beyond excited for this new adventure. We’ve been talking about it for months, planning it for weeks and working on the many details for the last few days.
We hope you will follow along because the only thing as inspiring to us as travel itself is knowing that our travels might inspire you to travel as well.
My plan is to write some how-to posts (as traveling with four kids on one income can be a challenge and I want to share what we learn and what works for us along the way) and also to share our experiences as we go- the beauty we discover, the life lessons learned, the peculiar, the unique, the funny and interesting things we do and see and experience along the way.
If you’d like to join us on this adventure, we will be posting pictures and stories on-
and here, on this blog.
Also, if you have any questions, please ask! We have learned a lot from our last few years of travels, we would love to answer your questions and share with you what we’ve learned.
For now, I leave you with a link to some of my favorite travel quotes.
May the road call to you, my friends. And may you answer that call as soon and as often as possible with joy in your heart and wonder in your soul. ❤
